daemonluna: A quote from James Barrie, "Always be a little kinder than necessary." (quote kinder)

Bah, work has been eating my brain lately. Impending stress of major changes have become changes that have happened, and upset and confusion to be dealt with. And it all has made me stressed and grouchy and way more negative than I like to be. And after spending so much mental and emotional energy on work lately, I need to make a conscious effort to focus on who I am outside of work. (I am now officially Senior Management. Yikes.)

So, I'm going to try to stop and take some time for the little stuff, and try to post at least One Good Thing every couple of days.

I've used a few of my vacation days at work for some random long weekends. Yesterday was one of them.

Yesterday, browsing the internet led me to a dead-simple flourless cracker recipe. I made these. I have no clue where you would find chia seeds, but I used ground flax seed instead, and they were surprisingly easy to make and tasty. I think I have some sort of mental block that if there is flour involved (of any sort, given my current mostly gluten-free state), it is a Major Baking Project. This is silly, and I know it's not necessarily true. But these crackers had few enough ingredients that I felt like it wasn't a major commitment to try them out. As of now, there are only a handful left, so I'd call that a win.

While I had the oven on, I also tossed the four or five tomatoes on the counter that had gotten too soft to eat raw into the oven in a baking dish with a whole clove of garlic, that was threatening to sprout and now we have roasted tomatoes and garlic for pasta sauce or something similar during the week.

The half a cucumber that hit a cold spot in the fridge and ended up freezing got sliced up to flavour water, and went into a pitcher with a sliced lemon. Barb says it tastes like being at a fancy spa. It needs mint, I think, and I am loving that at this time of year, I can go outside and pick some from the garden.

Things that are good: easy home-made crackers, salvaged vegetables, and (I almost forgot) the first two cherry tomatoes from the garden.

Highlights from this afternoon: walking to OUT in the Park and just meandering around (Pride this week!), finally stopping to browse in the art gallery gift shop, the newly-discovered amazingness that are the frapuccinos at our favourite local coffee shop (they roast their own beans and are just generally awesome), and checking out all the neighbourhood gardens as we walked home.

So that's that.

mmm, sounds like perfect summer small happinesses. I had my first few tomatoes from the garden the other day, too. the apricots are done, and now i have about a dozen fuji apples ripening on my new apple tree (the honeycrisp did not arrive with blossoms or fruit, as the other two did). i have LOTS of tomato plants that grew up from the compost i put on the garden box, but so far, just a few blossoms and no fruit. not sure of the pollination. also the 2 mystery vines (possible cantaloupe?) can came out of the compost as well. garden adventures!

Surprise produce is a good sort of gardening adventure to have! We have thirty-seven tomato plants. Maybe we got a bit carried away at the greenhouse... Apricots and apples, yum.
