I just realized exactly how much old archived fanfic I found crammed on a twenty-year-old CD-ROM. If I'm going to muck about binding fanfic, I want to be able to preserve some of the things that I've read through the years that may not necessarily be archived anywhere any more.
I poked at the misc by fandom folders when I dumped it all onto my hard drive. What I didn't realize until now is that most of it is sorted by author. In the folder labelled "authors," logically enough.
Hello, literally hundreds of files of anime fanfic that no longer exists in a central archive, whose loss I was bemoaning a few weeks ago. And a pile of Due South, X-Files, Hard Core Logo, and SW:TPM. A whole lot of things half-remembered or presumed to be lost.
I found both the external CD drive and the right box. Past Self's labelling system... Here are some highlights:
2006 Backup - Thunderbird/Firefox/wallpaper/fonts/my documents
2006 Backup - Thunderbird/Firefox/wallpaper/fonts/my documents
My Documents 11/03
Desktop backup fall/winter 2004
Ebooks - desktop junk - ICQ and Trillian from 2003 to the beginning of the internet
Programs, D-drive junk May/02
Pics and Text backup 2001
And then SCORE. A 96K zip file from 2003.
