Deconstructed
Jan. 26th, 2022 12:26 amOur house is currently... lacking some walls. As in, the foundation replacement is underway, and part of it are exposed and supported by steel posts instead of walls. It's a surreal experience. But we didn't have to move out while it happens, which is huge. It turns out the lifespan of a brick foundation is about a hundred years, and our house was built in 1911.
So far everything is going according to plan, except that we don't have any hot water right now. Or any water at all in the main floor bathroom. And the gas fireplace isn't working. It sounds dire, but it is apparently because the electrician got delayed on an emergency out of town job and couldn't get back to hook everything up today. So it should all be good tomorrow morning, fingers crossed.
My middle brother's comment, upon seeing pictures of the pre-deconstructed old-house basement: "That basement looks like you should have a cadaver dog give it a once over." No surprises of that nature to date, either., I am happy to report.
