I want this job, but moving to the States isn't really an option right now. Could move to Edmonton if I had to. Would also consider moving to BC. I would rather not move at all, however. Arrrrgh.

Signed up with temp agency. May have a admin assistant position for the summer. Data entry. Whee. Horribly demoralized.

So instead of listening to me feel sorry for myself, you should go read this article on writing, community, gender and genre, and slash! Eleanor Arnason, Lois McMaster Bujold, Patricia Wrede, Pamela Dean, Peg Kerr, Lyda Morehouse, and Caroline Stevermer. (In which I find out that Pamela Dean's Secret Country series is three books, not two--which I belieeeve are being re-released by Firebird Books--and there's a sequel coming, that there's a sequel to Caroline Stevemer's a College of Magics (A Scholar of Magics), and that Patricia Wrede and Caroline Stevermer's Sorcery and Cecelia has an upcoming sequel, The Grand Tour.

Or you could go scare yourself with World's Worst Food, British counterpart to the Gallery of Regrettable Food, some truly scary bento boxes, or origami Mothra and Godzilla.

You are teasing me! You realize that library is about 5 blocks away from where I work?

Heh. Cool. I did originally notice it because it was in Ann Arbour... The logistics of visas and such for same-sex partners is the biggest reason I wouldn't apply, though. ergh.

May I just point out that going to the US for a year or two can be a very good experience. It's actually quite nice down here, and I've found, contrary to my expectations, that Americans (or at least Californians) are very friendly. There's really nothing inherently wrong with it, and earning US$ is certainly nice, when you have Canadian debts to pay (like a student loan).

Actually, I almost ended up going to Spokane for a children's librarian position when I first graduated. I'd be much more likely to consider it, though, if I knew that Barb could get a visa and such (and a job), and that they had benefits for same-sex partners, etc. But given the current political climate in the States, I'm kinda hesitant about moving there. Sigh.

At least you can get an admin assistant job. I can't in Calgary because I'm a boy, and they don't hire boy admin assistants in this city. They might be gay or something. *flicks them off* But I can in Ottawa, which is reason number 2 for leaving, and no before you ask, my boyfriend is not reason number 1. More like reason 3. Reason 1 is my journalism career (in case you were wondering).

Well. Nobody's called me back about it yet, so.

I'll have to do that! Hers was the only name I didn't recognize. You have, of course, read Mairelon the Magician and A College of Magics and Pamela Dean's Tam Lin?
