Because of the ZOMBIES, that's why!

Okay, so last weekend we went with Dan and Mannie to see 28 Days Later. Don't get me wrong--it was really good.
But when I saw the trailers, it looked all apocalyptic and vaguely reminded of Last Night (yet in a completely different way), with the guy wandering through these completely empty streets.
Nobody told me it was about ZOMBIES. With RED EYES. Who try to EAT PEOPLE.
Okay, so they weren't technically zombies because they were still alive, and they trying to infect people, not eat them. But STILL. ZOMBIES. With RED EYES. INFECTING PEOPLE!
(Incidentally, I don't consider this spoiler-y, because all I'm giving away is the basic premise of the movie.)
It was far more than your standard B-movie, though. The isolation and the world come apart figured into the freakiness just as much as the zombies. Yeah, parts of it freaked me out while I was watching it, but I think it got to everyone else even more, since I slept just fine afterwards and the others, by all accounts, didn't.
Besides, after the movie (and after we decided that next time we'd see "Fluffy the Bunny Saves Springtime" which is something I suspect my mother made up), we had this conversation:
Barb (to me): Will you sleep with me tonight?
Me: Of course.
Barb: Dan, will you sleep with me tonight?
Dan: Um...
Barb: And Mannie, will you, too? Not in some kind of kinky foursome way, just to keep the zombies away.
Mannie: Okay, because I was thinking what the frick kind of crazy-ass lesbians are you!
Barb: I'm pretty sure we can fit all of us onto our bed... and we'll have to close the curtains so we don't have red-eyed zombies looking in...
However, Dan and Mannie did go home to their own conjugal bed, and we didn't have zombies looking in the window. Although Barb did wake me around 2am to tell me that she'd dreamed about the movie and she liked her version better because Legolas showed up in his thigh-high boots and pulled out his bow and shot all the zombies. Crossover fic, anyone? *g*

Date: 2003-09-10 10:35 pm (UTC)just how large is your bed (or, how small are Dan and Mannie)? I'm thinking you'd end up being really really close, and that does raise questions as to what sort of crazy-ass lesbians you might actually be.
I'm sure you're just exactly the right sort, but one never knows what outsiders will think!
