daemonluna: lazy wombat and a carrot (wombat)

ZOMG, nice weather! Long weekend!

We went to see the Hunger games Friday night with a friend. I... am still undecided on whether I want to see the second and third movies. Still, movie-with-a-friend was good! The local cheap theatre has someone who's a fan--the ceiling of the lobby by the concession is decorated with cardboard seals? coins? discs? for each district with their industry on it.

Saturday, Barb let me drag her to look at plants. I got minorly turned around, but still managed to find both greenhouses we were looking for, right outside the city. (Note to self, Greenhaven is BEFORE the scary evangelical church, and Broxburn is two(?) turns after. No matter how much it feels like they are on the same road, they are not!)

I came home with drought-hardy perennials for the front yard, and a couple more herb plants on account of the annuals being on sale. (More basil, more mint, and some dill. Several kinds of succulents, varieties of creeping thyme and soapwort for the top of the wall. Lavender, perennial sage, blanketflowers, dianthus and bee balm for beside the steps.)

Then there was a trip to one of the indy downtown coffee shops, for writing for Barb, reading The Freeedom Maze by Delia Sherman for me. (Recommend! For the book, and The Penny's gluten-free carrot cake.) After, we walked to the corner grocery store for hot dogs and potato salad and such.

I was very glad we picked up hot dogs and potato salad, when it turned out family were stopping in overnight on their way back to Edmonton that night, and not the night after. Oops. It was a good visit, though. We spent most of the evening around the fire pit (well, bowl) in the backyard.

I spent yesterday afternoon planting things (The rock garden border on the front wall! It has grown!) and ended up chatting a bit with one of our next-door neighbours, who to date, we have mostly just waved and smiled at. Barb spent the afternoon and most of the evening writing. I may have overdone it with the sun and the digging, even with sunscreen and a hat.

Somehow, I spent the evening reading Hunger Games fanfic. (Any and all random recs welcome!) Yeah, I know. But... the scope of the world! I am intrigued at the moment to see what fandom can do with it...

Today so far, I have mucked around in the kitchen, and now have intentions to go check on all the tomatoes, and hopefully dig out the rest of the new bed at the front. But first, sunscreen!
