It's been cold and rainy ever since Sunday, and feels like a serious taste of fall out there. I'm not minding too terribly much since I love the fall, but the rain's a bit much. Drip, drip, drip. It should clear up over the weekend, but I'm not holding my breath.

It's official, [livejournal.com profile] troutkitty has bronchitis. Between that and the weather, I need to see if I've got anything that can be turned into a large pot of soup.

I've worked my way through another large stack of library books. Two notables...

Whales on Stilts by M.T. Anderson is the funniest thing I've read in a very long time. Evil genius mastermind is planning on taking over the world by building hydraulic stilts for whales! And mind-control devices! And LASER BEAM EYES! All this while getting in some truly spectacular riffs on 1950's boys adventure novels, and series book like Goosebumps.

Also, Girl, (nearly) 16, Absolute Torture by Sue Limb has one of the best coming-out scenes ever. It's a British teenage girl book, and when her divorced dad comes out to her in one of the minor subplots, she things it's BRILLIANT, because think of all the incredibly cool famous people who are gay! And her best friend agrees and wishes her dad were gay instead of the most boring person ever. The book also manages to be truly funny and true to the agonies of being fifteen without descending into skin-crawling embarassment.

I'm considering starting another blog for my book blurbs. (Alliteration much?) Something with, y'know, my actual name on it that I can feel comfortable referring people to in a professional context. I will likely link to updates from here, in a friends-locked post. I've been thinking about it for a while, and am waffling over whether or not to use lj. We shall see.
