And there were pumpkin pies EVERYWHERE!
Sep. 28th, 2003 11:24 amThe original Anime Alberta bunch (which is about nine of us, running joke that Anime Alberta is Mark, Dan, and Karl's DVD collection aside) have an annual pot-luck at Christmas. This year,
channel_force volunteered her place for a Thanksgiving potluck.
It was the usual bunch of lunatics, and some more friends of Flo's from online, and the usual mishmash of foods. We had hamburgers and hot dogs, hummus and spinach dip with pitas, chicken fried rice, marinated veggie salad (our contribution), carrot sticks, potato salad, chocolate cake, jelly bean "casserole" (jelly belly jelly beans with fuzzy peach slices on top!), three kinds of ice cream, and FIVE pumpkin pies. I distinctly recall a previous potluck with chili, hamburgers, and sushi though, so like I said, the usual. *g* Needless to say, there was leftover pie.
And I've really got to stop torturing poor Mark and Dan. I didn't MEAN to, not really. But we brought some movies to watch, and the one that got chosen just so happened to be The Others.
(cue scary climax)
Dan: Gyahh!!! (jumps backwards in his chair)
Mark: What? What happened? I had my eyes closed.
Heh. (As Mark pointed out, "We're brave enough to close our eyes at the scary bits, and then admit it afterwards," or something to that effect.) Next time, I'm bringing Muppet Treasure Island. ("Sailing for adventure on the big blue wet thing!")
And I finally, FINALLY found an out of print book I've been looking for for about six months--The Merro Tree, by Katie Waitman. It's a SF novel about censorship and freedom of expression which incidentally has a same-sex interspecies couple. If it sounds preachy, it's really not, and I can't possibly do it justice. Check your local library! (CPL doesn't have a catalogued copy, grrr.) Scour your used bookstores! 'nough said.
