We didn't have anything in particular planned this weekend, other than going to see Goblet of Fire at some point (preferrably Friday). And that's exactly what happened--but also, one of my good friends from grad school was down from Edmonton, so she joined us for the movie, and we first spent four hours sitting around over good food and talking, talking, talking. The key is that it wasn't planned. The last three or four times we were going to get together, something inevitably happened. But this time, it worked.

The low point of the evening was the bit where I managed to trip over my chair and landed square on my knee on the concrete floor. I seem to have escaped with no permanent damage, but a truly spectacular bruise. The movie was pretty good--any sort of detailed analysis on my part will have to come after letting it sit for another few days, as that just seems to be the way my brain works.

Today, we slept in, had Korean for lunch, and then went hunting for a new futon frame. Ours has been steadily sagging ever since [livejournal.com profile] chaleur23 and [livejournal.com profile] jestyna broke one of the rungs a year or so ago. ;) (And we've been bugging them about it ever since... just like the time [livejournal.com profile] naked_bandit broke my bed, years back...) No, what's actually happened is that the rungs along the bottom have been steadily pulling away from the frame, and there's this ever-increasing lean towards the middle. Plus the two futons--the actual mattresses--are five and seven years old, and could do with replacing. So two weeks from now, we will be getting a spiffy new wooden frame and futon! I just hope it fits in the space where the old one is.

And we've started to do some actual wedding planning, thinking about concrete details. It's looking like it'll be August 2006. And also, we know more people than we thought we did. I think we'll be able to keep the guest list under a hundred, and still do something meaningful that includes most of our nearest and dearest.

I'm trying to get caught up on a bunch of reading for next week. Most weekends, I've been averaging at least five or six books (though keep in mind, a few of those are mid-elementary novels with less than fifty pages). Next week, I'm doing storytime at both schools (my school in the morning, and the school I'm subbing at in the afternoons) with everyone from K-6 (though we don't call it storytime with the older grades, no we do not) so I've got a wide range of books to go through.

We've got a heavy snowfall warning in effect for tomorrow morning, but so far, anything that's come down has melted.

Since I'm determined to not run out of vacation days before I run out of year next year a date would be nice. I'm trying to plan my time off. And airlines want dates when you even so much as try to start pricing fares.
