We've been all sociable-like the past few days. Thursday, we met [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu and [livejournal.com profile] mockingspike and after converging at Steeps for yummy tea, came back to our place to pimp Coupling to [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu and This is Wonderland to [livejournal.com profile] mockingspike. (And I discovered that the ridiculously long rollback time on my VCR meant that the beginning of ep 2x2 cut off the final scene of ep 2x1. Grr. Fortunately, it wasn't the episode where Nancy goes all protective over Alice. *g*)

Last night, we met [livejournal.com profile] ming_lei and her husband for Korean, also yummy! Plus, we've been to the one place (Royal Seoul Gardens on 10th) often enough that they know us, and give us a jillion little side dishes. (Mmmmm, bean sprouts and tofu and those sweet fermented soybeans...) Then we headed back to their place to watch The Incredibles. Extras, whee! Except we were all dead tired by eleven thirty (and [livejournal.com profile] ming_lei was the only one who had the excuse of having to get up for work on Saturday).

Today we eventually headed out into the truly wretched weather to get groceries, etc. (Note to self: going anywhere near Superstore on a Saturday is insane.) But it was all good in the end, because supper was mussels and spicy sausage in a tomato garlic broth with braised kale and chewy multi-grain buns. And we have Tim Horton's coffee for tomorrow morning.

Things we need to make with groceries:
- paneer spinach curry (because we found frozen paneer)
- green rice, with cilantro and parsely and spinach
- white bean soup with kale and rosemary
- tomato-seafood pasta made with leftover mussels and broth
- something with tofu, possibly stir-fry or kimchee soup

Erm... those will turn into five different meals, I think. Because combining any of those (except maybe the pasta and the bean soup) would probably be bad. And I forgot to buy coffee filters or milk. Dammit.

This is not a drill!

Upon further review of the relevant Coupling episode, I wonder if we should have been more aggressive in pimping queenzulu to the woman who was angling her foot at her while we were sitting in Steeps. In "The Girl With Two Breasts," the guys are noting the body language of a gorgeous woman a couple of tables away. After she gives Jeff a glance, a look/possible linger, and a hair touch, the exchange goes as follows:

Patrick: This is not a drill!
Steve: Right, if she angles an extremity in your direction, we're in business.
**Israeli woman points her foot at Jeff, tilting the toe up and down**
Patrick: Incoming!
Steve: Right...put the Enterprise on red alert!
Patrick: And you know what that means--
Steve: Captain Kirk! It is time to shag the alien's girlfriend!

For those of you who missed it, troutkitty and daemonluna were comically unsubtle when I told them that a woman at the table behind them was pointing herself at queenzulu. Troutkitty made an especially twisty over-the-shoulder survey, and we all eventually burst out laughing. I don't know if they caught on to what we were talking about, but I actually got a smile and hair touch combination from the woman's companion as we rose to go.

At least you have a Safeway but a few blocks away, unlike some of us who live in a city without a Safeway, and are forced to rely on a number of inferior alternatives, most of them owned in one way or another by the evil that is Stupidstore--I mean Superstore.
