"Gee, Karl, your breasts have gotten a lot more realistic."
...

"Yeah! Show us your breasts, Karl!" (as [livejournal.com profile] nekosei displays his sketchbook)

So yeah, about the usual level of Wednesday night silliness.

In other news, Dan sold me his old computer. Yay! It doesn't randomly freeze for several seconds at a time! It has five times the hard drive space and lots more the RAM and all that.

Bittorrent is being annoying and won't connect, and I'm still trying out how to migrate my mail on Thunderbird over (it's got oodles of support for switching from another mail program, but not for migrating from one copy to another, or backing it up or anything. Grr.)

(prods bittorrent experimentally. switches to bittornado.) Hmm. Still not connecting. But hey, it doesn't work for two seconds (literally) and then cause blue-screen-of-death, which is an improvement, lemme tell you.

My Torrent program of choice is ABC, which you can find at http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net. Though are you on a firewall? That might be stopping you from connecting, rather than the client.

Yay for new computer with no blue screen o' death!

Quick version of how to migrate over:

For security, Thunderbird probably creates a randomly-named folder (something like "gly6bwxo" or "sr6bn54c") for your mail files. This may not be the best way to do it, but install it on your new computer, create a user with your same details, quit the program, then copy the contents of your previous, randomly-named folder into your new, randomly-named folder. Then restart Thunderbird and you should get your mail back.

But be sure to keep a backup, in case I'm not 100% right.

Here's what I found after some digging--the Knowledge Base at Mozillazine.org (kb.mozillazine.org), specifically this page on the Profile Folder, where all the goodies are stored:

Profile Folder

It says where all the files are on all OS versions and talks a bit about copying the profile folder between computers lower down. If you're sticking with Thunderbird, that should be enough. If you're using another one, it should be possible (Thunderbird uses standard MBOX format mail files).

Let me know if you would like more help.

There's a tendency by some trackers to block certain clients, even some versions of clients. One site I downloaded from last week blocked my attempt to seed the files I got because there's a .001 newer version of my client. >_>

I'd also tell you about copying a profile folder over, but someone beat me to it. ;)
