1) Honestly, it was because a BA in English is useless. Having just finished writing my Honours thesis, I had vague ideas of doing academic research about research, etc. Then I discovered that I have very strong opinions about freedom of access to information, the right to and need for basic information literacy, and the right to read for pleasure. Voila. Turned me into a youth services librarian, albeit an underemployed one right now.

2) Hmm. Start a writer's commune? *g* Travel. Go and visit friends, and/or have them come visit me. Build a house, with a garden. Donate some of it to assorted foundations and charities. Start a scholarship for 1) academic study of fandom and fanfic, 2) Library school students interested in youth services. Pay Joss Whedon to produce anything he wants. Not spend it ALL on kibble, like Trout would do.
