And the heavens opened up...

... and there was water. Falling from the sky! And the kitties said, water's not supposed to fall from the sky! (They're indoor cats, what can I say.) Inside! Water falling from the inside sky! As in, y'know, the ceiling.
So we got home last night and found out that the guy above us, his dishwasher or something overflowed, and we had a lovely lake right in front of our kitchen. The good news was that there was no water damage to anything other than oh, the ceiling. The walls. The floor.
We were thinking okay, we've got it mopped up, it could have been worse.
And then there was more water falling down. At 7:30 this morning. And then it dripped a lot, and the screws holding up the stupid track lighting came loose and it was dangling from the wires, and our landlady came and took pictures, and there were many complications because the apartments above us are condos and nobody could get ahold of the guy with the overflowing dishwasher even though the fire department came and had to break down his door. And much more water decided to come gushing out of the ceiling.
Whee. And now it's 11pm and our landlady and the maintenance guy and the condo people have all gone. Apparently the plumber is still up there, because we can hear somebody thumping pipes and sawing holes in the floor. If it means our ceiling stops leaking, I'm all for it.
We've got most of the water mopped up again, which is good because the cats were pretty sure that they didn't want to go anywhere near it even to get to the kibble. (Trout was pretty sure that his feet would shrink if he got them wet. Really, he's pretty sure. Mind you, he's also pretty sure that the kibble monster comes and eats everything in his dish when he's not looking, and that he still fits perched on your shoulder, all eighteen pounds of him.)
In a complete and random change of subject, I've got a new Charles De Lint book in my waiting-to-be-read pile. Heeeeee. Spirits in the Wires. I'm looking forward to it, and hoping that it's better than the Onion Girl. Which was really good, but not as good as his best stuff, which was disappointing because it was about Jilly Coppercorn, who's one of my favourite characters.
All I can recall about the new one is that it's about Christy and Geordie (brothers, Christie is a folklorist and Geordie is a musician and a busker) and Geordie's girlfriend Saskia, whose origins are murkily indeterminate but somehow connected to a computer system. And there are problems with said system--possibly some sort of hostile takeover--and Saskia disappears. I think.
But I have to read some more of my overdue books before I can get to that one.
Sawing noises from the ceiling have stopped... this sounds promising... Want to sleeeeeeep...
