Series watching
Oct. 14th, 2022 09:24 pmWe're watching The Midnight Club and are far enough in (two eps from the end) that I felt justified in looking up some of the key differences between the book and the show. It turns out I DID read the book after all. Whether or not it will end remotely like one of the only scenes I remember from the book remains to be seen, but I'm thinking no at this point.
The series... does not exactly transcend its source material. We're both enjoying it for what it is, and it has its moments... but yeah. It is still a Christopher Pike novel, stuffed with other Christopher Pike novels like the mass market paperback to TV equivalent of a turducken.
I read a smattering of Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine back in the day, but mostly because one friend or the other leant them to me. I never really picked them up on my own, and I'm remembering why, Love ghost stories, picky about what horror I like, not interested in the serial killer sort at all. I think we might need to rewatch The Haunting of Hill House when we're done, while it's still October.
