I suppose this is as good a time as any...
Oct. 1st, 2021 03:55 pm"I should post to DW/LJ more," I say, and then all of a sudden another six months have gone by.
But over the summer,
bell introduced to The Untamed. Fifty episodes of Chinese fantasy-drama full of gay pining and angst, pretty, pretty people, stunning costumes and scenery, and evil magic and occasional zombies. The TV series (on Netflix!) is based on a BL novel series, and has spawned multiple adaptations including two spin-off movies, and a three-season anime.
We started watching the anime, commonly translated as Grand Master of Demon Cultivation, when it first came out and saw most of the first season, but didn't really get around to picking up the second season.
But the live-action show. I have a lot of Feelings about it now, okay??
The pacing is stretched out differently, and there's more focus on character development, and did I mention it's very, very pretty? It started as a slow-burn, but now we are both totally, irrevocably hooked, have finished the series, have gone back to watch the anime, and I love my wife so much because she is in the deep end with me now, and does not mind when I randomly cast fanvids onto the living room TV throughout the evening.
( things I have messaged to bell over the last two months (may have oblique spoilers but mostly just flailing) )
Tumblr's good for sharing content, but apparently I need a more structured place to store my incoherent fannish flailing, because I am old-school like that?
In other news, the punishingly hot and smoky summer has turned into a really gorgeous extended fall right now, and the beans and peas in my vegetable garden have started blooming again. I survived a second year of running our library's big literary festival entirely online, even though I had to make the call on a Thursday morning to cancel the limited in-person activities we had planned that Saturday, because our province is a dumpster fire right now.
I'm juggling part of my job and part of a coworker's right now since she went on mat leave, and her mat leave replacement... also got pregnant, and has now had the baby. I've promised them all I won't accidentally get knocked up, and there are no plans to do it on purpose. (Our teen librarian has been telling me for years, every time I make the same stupid joke, that if it didn't happen accidentally, there could be some serious research grant money in it for me and Barb.) Anyone interested in weird and wonderful public library life anecdotes?
Barb's ESL teaching job is still on hiatus, the final draft of her thesis for her Master's in Creative Writing has been submitted and accepted, and she is fighting with the university about the way the program is run and how she was treated during it... it's been a lot. She has also got an official ADHD diagnosis now, which has been huge for her.
And over the last year, a friend recruited us onto her team for GISH, so that's a thing we've been doing too.
So yeah, let's see if I can trying posting as well as lurking like a lurking thing for a while.
