daemonluna: lazy wombat and a carrot (wombat)
A late and lazy Happy New Year, all!

Yesterday was spent finishing off Grey's Anatomy with [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu, [livejournal.com profile] troutkitty cooked a (very yummy) duck for supper, then there was cleaning house and [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu heading off to a party, while those who weren't otherwise occupied dropped by at our place. [livejournal.com profile] nekosei brought his light sabres! [livejournal.com profile] drakkenfyre popped in long enough to make girly blender drinks (What? I like girly blender drinks!), and there were Serenity DVD bonus features to be watched, and the last twenty minutes of The Princess Bride on TV before the countdown.

[livejournal.com profile] troutkitty briefly confused our friend Mark shortly after midnight by asking him to leave and come back in again--it's supposed to be good luck if the first person through your door is a tall, dark man. And while it could be argued that Mark isn't tall, neither is he short. We're good either way, since the first person in through the other door (and without any prompting) was [livejournal.com profile] mockingspike, who is both tall and dark. And who managed to show up five minutes after everyone else had headed home, but that was okay, since he stayed to chat for a bit.

Today has been a day of general lying about the house. Am using my wombat icon of general contentment. Both [livejournal.com profile] troutkitty and I are feeling slightly coldish. She's been watching Battlestar Galactica, and I'm working my way though a large stack of school library books. We're both still in our pajamas.

Here's all the best to everyone in 2006!

It's a rare occurence, but it has been known to happen--I'm tired of reading right now.

I scooped up all my varied and sundry to-read piles from both schools before the break. Today, I curled up with a stack of books and made it through a dozen of them. Okay, so one was already half-done, and seven of them were Gr. 1-3 chapter books. (Estimated reading time: 10 minutes each) But still. And I spent most of the morning poking through the fruits of assorted seasonal fanfic challenges.

Public library books waiting to be read: 12
Unfinished books brought home from both schools: 81

what I've read over Christmas break so far )

Eighteen down, ninety-three to go. Of course, twenty-three of those are books I've already read, some fairly recently (The Outcasts of 19 Schuyler Place, The Bone Collector's Son, The Amulet of Samarkand), other many, many years ago (My Side of the Mountain, Pippi Longstocking), and am just skimming so I can book-talk them.

So really, that's only seventy books.

...

Of course, there's always that brand-new copy of Anansi Boys sitting there...
