Attack of the ominous looming possibility of a cold

Updating on my coffee break again. Mmm, breakfast. More specifically, instant oatmeal (maple brown sugar with a handful of chopped pecans tossed in) and a bottle of grapefruit juice.

I've been feeling slightly cold-ish the past few days, but paranoid dosing of self with echinacea and ColdFX seems to be helping. What doesn't help: Trout having long conversations with himself at five this morning.

Him: Mrowwwr! Mrrr! Mrrreh?

Me: Mmmmph.

Him (from the other room now): Mrrrr? Mrrrreh! Mrowwwwwl!

Me: Shut up!

Him: Mrrrrr? (trots into bedroom, jumps up on bed, and takes this as meaning that I want to pet him)

Me: (pats cat on head, pushes him down beside me) Go back to sleep!

Loud, bad, smelly cat: (purrs briefly, gets up and wanders off. Then proceeds to start talking some more.)

Yeah. I'd say it's because troutkitty is still in Edmonton (she gets home tonight), but really, he does this when she's home, too.

Today's book: Prince Across the Water by Jane Yolen. YA historical fiction, thirteen year old Duncan runs off with his cousin to fight for Bonnie Prince Charles at Culloden. I started it on the bus this morning and am only about a quarter of the way in, but I'm enjoying it so far, as expected. (Jane Yolen = master storyteller)

I love my not-dead gay show!

Because it had an insane, dsyfunctional lesbian couple this week. Because on this show, not only do the lesbians get to be young and cute, they're just as fucked up as any other case. ("Sex with men is death!") Gotta love the CBC--even though they still insist on bleeping out the "fucks" (though "You dumb bitch" is okay), extended same-sex smooching is all well and good. (I coulda told you that...)

Plus, consistently compassionate and realistic depictions of mental illness. And senior citizen polygamy. And Nancy being earnest. And Alice backstory!

I had to call queenzulu up to squeak at her during the commercial breaks. Will yet tempt her into writing fic. Hee. And now I'm tempted to write fic about Pamela Menon being a lesbian, but damned if she's going to let Elliot know. Maybe I should drabble it.
