Dear SGA fandom,

Elizabeth Weir is not Liz.

Seriously. No-one on the show calls her Liz. And more importantly, she never, ever refers to herself as such. I'm an Elisabeth-not-Liz, too. Having people arbitrarily change your name is infuriating, and occasionally, if persisted with after you correct them, shows a huge lack of respect. You can use this. Work with it.

But when she thinks of herself as Liz? Cut that shit out.

No love,
Me.

My name has variations and diminutives that I loathe ... one being the one my family used until I laid a smackdown on them in grade four.

Still, though, when I've really effed up? I call myself that hated diminutive in my head.
So, perhaps there's room for artistic choice, though probably not wide-scale use.

A very good point. Those who indescriminately call her "Liz" should definitely take note. *g* I think what it all comes down to is levels of intimacy--it's such a personal thing to play around with someone's name.

Resume of a Diplomat (Female)

She'd worked at a diner when she was in high school. The sort of job that meant aprons and name-tags and assholes that looked at your 15 year old chest covered in white lace and "Hi, I'm Elizabeth" and called you by your name. They would call her other things too. Gorgeous, Honey, Liz, Lizzy. She'd had to scrub down the grill after every shift, and empty the grease tray, but she'd sold that for a price. Her name they took. At best a misguided attempt at charming, at worst a power trip.

"Not forever," she'd thought, smiling and pouring more coffee.

"Not forever," she thought as she stepped through the stargate. "Not much longer now."

My other SGA rant involves spelling. The season one finale was "Siege." (Parts one, two, and three.)

Two-thirds of the fandom spells it "seige," to the point where I checked the episode guide to make sure it wasn't some strange deliberate misspelling. (headdesk)

(And I just rotated out my "My fandom can't spell" icon, dammit.)

You're welcome. This was one of those "should have gone to bed hours ago" moments.

Wow! I liked it and I know next to nothing about Stargate. Very nicely done.
