[livejournal.com profile] troutkitty is reading SG:A kidfic. (A Beautiful Lifetime Event by [livejournal.com profile] astolat, specifically. Which, to borrow a word from [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu, is blerking brilliant.)

I went out tonight to take back some library books and say hi to a friend who works at the closest branch.

Me: Back soon, just going to the library.

My girl, looking up all wide-eyed: I wanna baby.

Me: I'd bring you one, but all the babies at the library will belong to someone else who's not us.

My girl: Wanna baby.

(Needless to say, I did not come home with a baby. Or with any more books, but that was only in part due to the thirty or so I've got out that need to be read before they're due back, and mostly because I forgot my wallet.)

Now she's demanding more fic. Oh, dear.

Conversation from last Wednesday, or, a recounting of [livejournal.com profile] ming_lei's talk about reincarnation with her mother:

"Why are people always Chinese in their past lives? Couldn't you come back as a Swedish person?"

"Hell, no! Chinese person or bust! ... Or an animal."

"A Chinese animal? Like a horse? Couldn't you be a Swedish horse?" (insert bad Swedish accent here) "I am a horse from Sweden!"

... yeah. Maybe you had to be there. We also got to watch the police come and all. The one guy couldn't pay his two hundred dollar tab, and at one point, made a break for it up the stairs before the manager dragged him back. And then they took him out in cuffs because they found drug paraphenalia on him.

Usually, Wednesday nights aren't quite THAT eventful.

On aminor sidenote, I have all three parts of Fingersmith now! Yay! ([livejournal.com profile] queenzulu, want me to wait to watch it until you can come see it, too?)

please tell your girl that when you go to the baby store you'll be happy to bring her back one. that said, I've gotta admit you just suckered me into rereading A Beautiful Lifetime Event *again* for the 89574032th time.

damn you (and my easily susceptible self) for sidetracking me from all the important stuff I probably wouldn't have gotten around to anyway.

also, I've never been Chinese in a past life - mostly I'm European - French once, German/Teutonic sometimes, English (I think) a couple times, and at least a couple times I was male. but rarely anything noble or exotic - even in my past lives I was fairly ordinary and boring.

Hee. I will make sure to ask her if she wants to add anything to the list next time we go to the baby store. (Though if it's anything like the loud bad stinky kitty store where Trout and Minnow came from, we're in trouble.)

Apparently, Mannie's preference next time around is a Swedish horse. *g* And I don't see how you could possibly have been ordinary and boring in any life!

huh - I've never considered what sort of 'animal' I may have been in a past life. I just hope at least one of them was pampered housecat; they've got the bestest lives going!

and it took me a moment to figure out it was likely you, not Barb who responded; thanks for confuzzling me!

That conversation was hilarious.

That reply sounds very Freudian. :P

BTW, you double-posted, I think.

Gyah, thanks for cathing that, hon. Double-post deleted, and I swear that extra "s" came from posting before my second cup of coffee.

We'll be at the Elephant and Castle, downtown. I hope it's a less eventful evening than last time, if only for the sake of our poor waitress--still, would be good to see you!

That would be so traumatizing. ;_;

What time do you guys usually start gathering?

Mmm... depends. There's usually somebody there by six--most of the time, it's Renata, and sometimes Dan. We usually get there between six and seven, depending on whether or not we're eating at home or there.

babies?

My first reaction was "but you don't get babies at the library". The second one was more along the lines of "I don't know where to find the cheat window to type in the whole boolprop thingie" followed by "or the phone number the Sims use when they call to adopt one".

Yes, this probably means I spend too much time either playing The Sims 2 or lurking the BBS.

Feeling a bit confused by the whole baby thing.

I could audition a few sperm donors for you, if you'd like.

Anyway, wow, where were you at that mr $200 got dragged off?

And Mannie is one of the funniest (and oddly astute) people I know. :)

The uh... sacrifices you're willing to make for your friends are staggering, aren't they :)

We're still saying in the next five (four!) years, when we have, you know, careers and such.

As m'girl said, wow, what a sacrifice. *g*

And we were only at the Elephant and Castle downtown. It's not usually quite so eventful.
