([livejournal.com profile] queenzulu, you were right. It did take me ages to do this. Heh.)

1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video: Individual DVDs, about fifty. Boxsets, thirty. Heh. That includes both [livejournal.com profile] troutkitty's DVDs, and mine. I could try to separate them out, but that seems like far too much work. There's some that are definitely hers (Fight Club, Pretender box set, eight seasons of X-Files Hong Kong bootlegs), and some that are definitely mine (all the anime, to start), and some that are ours (Buffy box sets, Due South box sets, Pirates of the Caribbean...)

2) The last film I bought: Bend it Like Beckham

3) The last film I watched: Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, which could have been better.

4) Five films that I watch a lot, or that mean a lot to me:

Hard Core Logo
Yes, one of my favourite movies is a mockumentary about a defunct Canadian punk band. With the angst and the lashings of UST (and RST), and the end... Plus there's the sentimental value, since I might not have met m'girl if it weren't for our respective HCL obssessions at the time.

My Neighbour Totoro
Cute! Cuuuute! Miyazaki cute, though, with all the whimsy and wonder and lack of saccharine that implies. I first saw this movie dubbed in Cantonese, with no subtitles. One of my friends brought it over to watch--a coworker had handed it to her, since she liked anime, and that was all the explanation we got. For the longest time, I knew it, only as "the anime with the dibby-dahs," since that's the sound the little white Totoros make in Cantonese. Dibby-dah, dibby-dah, dibby-dah ...

Pirates of the Caribbean
Because it's just fun. With the swashbuckling, and the snappy dialogue, and mostly, Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Whee!

Last Night
A cheery little, inherently Canadian movie about the end of the world. No, actually, it's an incredible look at humanity. What would you do with your last night on earth if you knew the world was going to end tomorrow?

Labyrinth
Sparkly! Magic! David Bowie being androgynous! Muppets! Yay! This one's tied with the Last Unicorn for favourite fantasy movie.

(What almost made the list: Love Actually, The Sweet Hereafter, But I'm a Cheerleader, Bend it Like Beckham, The Others, Nausicaa, original Star Wars trilogy, Princess Bride...)

In other news, birthday party for my darling [livejournal.com profile] troutkitty tomorrow night! 7:30!

We're also planning on catching some of the movies showing at the Fairy Tales Film Festival over the next week. (Anybody else want to come? [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu?)

Until I get to blurbing what I've read lately (subbing in an elementary school library has upped my juvenile fiction intake, go figure!), behold, the randomness of the links!

Hth's Buffy fic, Pink Ladies, was just recced on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, which reminded me how much I like this fic. It's Tara/Dru. Yes, you read that right.

This short X-Files fic has dialogue made up entirely of subtitles from Hong Kong movies.

New Star Wars prequel? Give it up, George.

Also, I want a "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" t-shirt!

Look, penguins!

And here's a review of Revenge of the Sith that's all with the insight.

FoodTV has just informed me that lemongrass and citronella are the same thing. Huh.

Because I don't actually know her, pass along my birthday greetings to your troutkitty for me.
