Here are some random things:

* A discussion on books and authors that should be better known on Tor's website.

* Locus magazine's 2009 Recommended Reading List

* Being Erica FTW, and again. Somewhat belated, probably from serrico. Anyone heard anything about a third season yet?

* An Amazon blog discussion on influential YA books of the last decade. Sadly, the comments very quickly turned into a debate about ratings and language.

* I will admit it freely! This Tim Horton's commercial still makes me tear up. Every time. And they've been showing it a lot.

* I have sent the
The 17 Least Appropriate Playmobil Sets for Children to half a dozen people, including both my brothers.

Yay, new recommended reading lists! Thank you. Although I am avoiding the comments in many of those discussions. As a general rule I am terrified of Internet discussions about young adult books, unless I absolutely trust the people who are talking about them.

I watched about the first four episodes of Being Erica and got bored. If it didn't pull me in by then, should I try again? Or does that mean it's just not my thing?

I only have four of those Playmobil sets! Clearly I am not trying hard enough.

And as for that Tim Horton's ad -- feh. Don't Canadians understand what we south of the border have been trying to teach you for years? Reuniting dark skinned immigrant families means YOU LOVE TERRORISTS. North America is for the people who were here first! You know, white people! </snark>

Avoiding the comments is probably wise, in this case. It started out from "swearing is bad for the children!" and quickly entered "books should have ratings" territory. I am embarassed to say that I haven't ready ANY of the YA books on Locus's list, but a lot of them are on my to-read list.

Being Erica really hit its stride around ep six, seven, eight. If you can watch the ep about her sister's wedding, and the Yom Kippur episode (seven and eight) and it still doesn't grab you, it is probably not for you. I admit, part of the reason I love it is the nostalgia factor since Erica's about the same age as me. And the season one finale demonstrates Michael Riley's true awesomeness as an actor.

That Tim's ad is so Canadian. *g* Plus, emotionally manipulative, but it works because it feels TRUE! They keep showing it during the Olympics coverage and I tear up every single time.

Playmobil is awesome! Playmobil and Lego. I was sad when my youngest brother was too big to get Lego for Christmas and I didn't get to spend Christmas Eve post-presents asssembling Lego sets.

It gets to me EVERY TIME. Even more than the one with the Chinese dad with the hockey practice.
