The Weekend of Fannish Glee
Mar. 29th, 2004 09:39 pmI've made another convert. We've turned Kaye into a slasher. Bwah. All it took was a couple Highlander slash vids, and the sugestion of Jeeves and Wooster slash!
My girl drove up to Edmonton Fri morning, and back down that night, bringing Ariel with her. (Ariel and I kept each other's slacker non-school-committee-involved selves sane through library school--often with the judicious application of Buffy and ice cream.) Kaye came over Fri evening, and kept me company (because our friends seemed vaguely bemused by the notion of Barb and I being in different cities for a whole day) and we alternated episodes of Jeeves and Wooster with Sports Night. (Newt dance! I want a newt dance icon!)
Kaye immediately 1) declared Jeeves and Wooster curtainfic, since we'd already talked about the travesty of X-Files curtainfic, and 2) decided that Dan and Casey were DEFINITELY a couple, as were Dana and Natalie. (Then on Sunday she agreed unconditionally that Kaylee and Inara were so doing it, and that Simon and Jayne so SHOULD be doing it. I'm so proud!)
Now. The reason that Ariel came down this weekend in particular is that a bunch of the IFWA folk were staging a karaoke type sing-along thingie of the Buffy musical ep. I, being incredibly unmusical, contented myself with taking pictures and brandishing my Spike action figure rather maniacally. Oh, and helping Heather add Val's "extra" blonde hair (clippy-on thing) to her own dark curly locks.
There were stunning performances all around, what with Val and the demon chorus on "Going Through the Motions," Ivan dipping Denita on "I'll Never Tell," Kaye and Ivan and the parking ticket song ("Hey, I'm not wearing underwear (shut up, Anna!"), Heather's immense glee at singing "Under Your Spell," and Anna's remarkably in-character Dawn performance. All in all, the big group numbers were the most fun. Twas very cool.
Sunday, we went to see the Bog People exhibit again, which also remains really cool. I hadn't found the magnetic poetry board in the interpretive center last time. Hee. Barb went off with Anna to do IFWA-ish social things, but Ariel and I kidnapped Kaye. After her unfortunate run-in with the World's Worst cheesecake, Ariel proceeded to addict us both to Firefly.
Damn. It's AWESOME. And cancelled. Dammit. Though there's a movie planned. I want Kaylee/Inara fic! (And when Barb called to say that she was sitting between Heather's legs, I had to tell her that I was cuddling under the blankets with both Kaye and Ariel, in our pajamas.)
Taped This is Wonderland because we had to go and hunt down our own copy of Firefly. May be too tired to watch it tonight. Yawn. Sleeeeep...
