Well. Car's a write-off. Spent the past week and a bit dealing with insurance people and car-shopping. After an instructive couple of hours in the reference section at the library, we had our list, and a bunch of calling around and having to depend on Barb's dad to spend the one afternoon driving us from one place to another, we've settled on a nice little blue '95 Honda Accord. All going well, we should be able to pick it up tomorrow. Then we can go up to Edmonton to get the stuff out of the old car (including the alarm), and I also have to go to the training session for a local history project I volunteered for, doing keyword indexing.
troutkitty's Christmas present finally came! (We both knew it was going to be late, so there was something little under the tree anyhow, but still.) She's now the proud possessor of seasons one to eight of the X-Files. Bootlegs, all, straight from Hong Kong. ("Looks like a bootleg... know why? 'cause it's a bootleg." "Fuck you, it's perfect.") We knew it didn't have the special features, but when you try and access them on the menu, every ep (at least on the first disc) takes you to a scene from the pilot. Dubbed in Japanese. Heh.
And I got my BDB cels! Happy-sparkly-shiny-yay! The seller also threw in two extras, which I assumed would be some bizarre unidentified series from the 80's or such that he wanted to get rid of but no! They're both also BDB cels.
The two I bought are one of Miya-sama with her arms crossed, looking unimpressed (scene yet to be identified), and one of Mariko with her face buried in one of the sorority sister's bosoms (Mona Lisa-sama? The one with the long black hair that squiggles at the end) in ep three or four--the one where the sorority candiates are announced, and Aya throws a temper tantrum and says nasty things to Mariko in front of the class.
The extras--one is Nanako with a red umbrella, and the other is the three older students who corner Nanako in ep six or seven and slap her for cheating because they were wanna-be sorority members who didn't get in fair and square. That scene reminds me an awful lot of the scene in Utena where--okay, one of the numerous scenes in Utena where Anthy gets slapped.
Wai. Makes me very happy, for it is the Show With No Merchandise. After eight years of avoiding cels completely. Along with models, garage kits, and drama CDs. Not counting fansubs, numerous posters (anybody want anime posters, I will GIVE you some of mine. Really. Seriously.) stickers, keychains, untranslated manga and assorted other bits and pieces.
My girl is watching X-Files. We're up to 1-07, Ghost in the Machine. Sigh. X-Files before it started to suck. Cynic!Scully and Mulder when he still got it wrong half the time. My favourite XF eps were always the supernatural, non-myth-arc ones. Ooh! Six more eps until "Beyond the Sea!" Truly creepy. Minnow, on the other hand, is perfectly happy just sitting in the box the DVDs came in. Figures.
