In which kids books continue to be cool and I have a penguin

As previously posted, I am a great big geek and had a guess-the-first-line kids and YA book meme up at my book blog. The answeres are here! Yay!

And unconnectedly, thank you to whoever gifted me with a virtual penguin in my profile! I am sad that I didn't do anything for More Joy Day, but the penguin was definitely a joyful moment.

And on another unrelated note, mango is yummy, I am sad queenzulu and mockingspike had to go home, but I have a small cat purring in my ear.

alessar pointed me your way in response to an entry I wrote about my difficulties in finding titles to fill certain gaps in my daughter's pre-school's library.

If you have advice on how to find books that fit certain subject areas that are appropriate for 3-5 year olds, I'd be grateful. We're a co-op, so our budget is limited as is our access to normal librarian resources. (My background is a decade of support work in a large academic library system. I'm not a librarian and haven't done acquisitions/selection directly.)
