I have been craving cupcakes for about a week now. Specifically, ever since reading Devilish by Maureen Johnson. (Catholic schoolgirl sells soul to demon girl, AND there are cupcakes, how could you possibly go wrong?) It was partly the cover, and partly a chance mention of lemon cupcakes in Godiva's. (Which we are finally watching,
guyindkny, because I got ahold of the first season and yes, it is fabulous.)
And all of a sudden, I wanted lemon cupcakes. And then
troutkitty pointed out that we do, in fact, have a box of lemon cake mix in the cupboard.
It's not something I usually crave. Chocolate, sure. Or also, salty things. But... cupcakes? You just know it's the idea more than the actual concoction of cake and icing. And I resisted for almost a week.
Then tonight, I said screw it. I know it's 35C but I want lemon cupcakes.
So I made cupcakes, and we had to retreat to the air conditioner in the bedroom as they baked. But between scraping out the bowl, making the icing, tasting the icing, adding more icing sugar and lemon zest and trying again, repeat as needed...
I ate half a finished cupcake. I am all sugared out. I think I'll take most of them in to work tomorrow. And keep a few to freeze, for just in case.
Unrelatedly, over here is one of my semi-regular “but it’s a bad book and nobody should read it” link round-ups.
