Not so much a GIP as an.. appropriate icon post? AIP?

Canadian politics is getting more and more histronic. Normally, you would expect a headline like Liberals make rare use of rule to spring, win surprise budget vote on Tories to be fairly dry, right?

Well, first off, this means that it's likely that Bill C-38, legalizing same-sex marriage, will pass early next week.

But to focus on the minutea, we have some direct quotes:

"When push comes to shove the Liberals will make any deal with anybody," [Conservative party leader Stephen] Harper said after he was forced to rush back for a midnight vote. "And it doesn't matter whether it's with the socialists or with the separatists or any bunch of crooks they can find."

Socialists, separatists, and crooks. Not like he's been making deals with the Bloc Quebecois (separatists) for the past eight months--except oh wait, he has. (And really, does he think calling the NDP socialists is news, or particularily insulting? Because, um, they are.)

And: A few Conservatives were missing from their seats in an earlier vote Thursday evening. More could been seen racing back up Parliament Hill when news broke of the impending budget showdown.
They knew something was wrong because they were the only ones waiting for the bus. And we're not talking a metaphorical bus, we're talking snuck out a bit early, standing outside on Parliament Hill, WAITING FOR THE BUS. Is it just me, or does this strike anybody else as incredibly amusing?

Conservative deputy leader Peter MacKay described his foes as a menage a trois between separatists, socialists and power-hungry Liberals.

Liberals claims of making the minority Parliament work was "all just one big, fat stinking lie" and then went further, comparing the Liberals to one of Hollywood's most heinous homicidal cannibals.

"We have to start thinking that Hannibal Lecter is running the government and they'll do anything they have to do to win."

Tory MP John Reynolds was ranting about the Liberals jumping "in bed with the devil" - the Bloc Quebecois.

Two things: menage a trois, because yes, I really am twelve (and also, am waiting to see what [livejournal.com profile] carlanime is going to come up with), and ... I'm kind of puzzled as to where the cannibalism comes in. And kind of scared.

Liberals could barely contain their glee in response.

"It's not surprising that Hannibal Lecter should spring to mind for Mr. MacKay given the growing number of Conservatives who believe the party should soon eat its own leader," said Scott Reid, the prime minister's spokesman.

Just... snerk.
