The cruel whims of weather on the prairies

the highway today the highway today

Sadly, we won't be making it to [livejournal.com profile] drakkenfyre's Halloween-and-birthday party tonight. Not when the highways look like this.

I should have suspected that the weather was changing with the fierce winds we've been having. It made for the perfect atmosphere, though--last night we went on a graveyard walking tour by flashlight, put on by the Galt Museum. It was more historic stories than spooky stuff. I was afraid we wouldn't be able to hear the guide over the wind, but it turns out he's a middle school teacher by day, so his voice carried just fine. He clearly knew his stuff as far as the details go, but could have used a bit of work polishing his storytelling techniques. Still, it was a fun way to spend a Saturday night coming up on Halloween.

And the snow is still blowing and blowing out there. Ugh. The good news--neither one of us has to be anywhere before Tuesday afternoon, and if it doesn't warm up a bit by then (which I think it's supposed to) we're both close enough to walk to work.

It's the first time in about four or five years that we haven't had some sort of Halloween paty. But I will be working Halloween night, and I will be in costume! Pirate this year, I think...

Boo and sadness, y'all. We were going to laugh outrageously today. Well, we still will, but it'll be more at your guys' expense than it would've been if you were there. Because we're good friends like that. I pout in the general direction of our climate.

Ugh, I'm going to have to find some way to get my schoolbooks. Or borrow them again, I guess. Better email my prof.

We are sad not to be able to come, but relieved about not driving through the snow.

Want us to mail the books to you? I need to make a trip to the post office anyhow.

Well, I want you guys to be safe, so good decision.

Yeah, at this point, looks like mailing the books is the best bet. I have to write a term paper draft by Saturday, so. Lemme know how much it is, I'll get you back, 'kay?

I've been checking the AMA highway cameras (which is just NEAT) and it still looks pretty bad. Yuck.

Sounds good--how fast do you want it and how much are you willing to pay? (Now that just sounds smutty.)

[identity profile] zulu.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess whatever's the cheapest for getting them here by, say, Wednesday or Thursday. Yeah, if I got home on Thursday and they'd been delivered, that'd be fine.

Gah, they're blerkin' heavy books, too. Well, forget the Dictionary Of Critical Theory--just send me the anthology and Literacy For A Diverse World.

After that, whatever it costs, it costs. I need it bad, man, I can't be choosy how I get it. (Dirty enough for you?)

You know.. my mother was one of the last babies born at the Galt Museum when it was still a hospital...

[identity profile] daemonluna.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Neat! The Galt Museum ghosts are supposed to be there because it was a hospital.

Yep... that's my home town.. :)

Galt Babies Birthday Party

(Anonymous) 2008-05-15 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you know that the Galt is hosting a party for people born there when it was a hospital? June 22, 2008 - they are also compiling names of the Galt Babies. The information is on their website, on the events page.
Cheers!
