Things of a literary nature

Okay, now this is truly awesome. Award-winning author, Yann Martel (The Life of Pi) feels that our Prime Minister does not have a strong enough interest in or awareness of the arts in Canada. (No arguments here!) So, he's decided to mail Stephen Harper a book every two weeks. Here's the CBC's coverage, and this article from Reuters has a few direct quotes and Yann Martel's website about the whole thing is at whatisstephenharperreading.ca.

And more importantly (to me!), my own [livejournal.com profile] troutkitty's second book in her gay kinky vampire erotica series came out today! Check out her lj for some excerpts. It is official, Lineage by Angela Fiddler is now available from Loose Id Press.

If I didn't already have so many other books checked out from the library (and on my to-read list when I'm done with those on loan), I'd consider reading Martel's mailed books once he posts them. That is very cool.

I'm not too sure I'd give his choices a go (I have so many other things I want to read more than Tolstoy, I unabashedly admit--including Yann Martel's own Life of Pi) but I do admire the sentiment. *g*
